International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
International Women’s Day has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.
For 2022, the United Nations given theme is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, which aims to recognize women who are working to build a more sustainable future.
Government Polytechnic College, Kalamassery observe IWD 2022 as a joint effort of the Women’s Cell and National Service Scheme units (135 &237). A seminar on the theme, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow” by Dr. R Sharmila, Assistant professor of Philosophy, Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University was conducted. The programme was presided over by Smt. Gaatha Devi R, Principal, Government Polytechnic College, Kalamassery. Smt. Sohpia, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Government Polytechnic College, Kalmassery; Smt. Jasmine K S, Head of Electronics and communication Section, Government Polytechnic College, Kaalmassery and Sri. Muhammed Sahal A S, NSS Programme Officer, Government Polytechnic College, Kalamassery spoke. Kumari Anakha Vinayan propose the vote of thanks. Members of Women’s Cell NSS Volunteers of Government Polytechnic College, Kalamassery took part in the porgramme.
